Why Certified Organic is important
With certified organic and whole food rapidly becoming the nutrition of choice by the health conscious amongst us, why would we accept any less for our skin? It is now common knowledge that over 60% of what we put onto our skin absorbed into our bloodstream, so what we apply to our skin topically requires just as much care as what we eat.
We don’t want to dwell too much on all the ‘bad stuff’ that goes into most commercial skin care products, so to keep it simple, our philosophy is that skin care ingredients should be safe enough to ‘eat’. By igniting your body’s inherent healing capacity with the right kind of ‘food’ and not burdening it with toxins, the glow of good health comes… naturally.
Good nutrition for your skin is simple really – it needs to be as unprocessed and natural as possible and full of potent enzymes, minerals, antioxidants, omegas, vitamins and pure life-force to feed your cells with the energy they need to function at their best.
Like good food – great skin care ingredients function best when not competing with de-natured, heavily processed synthetic additives, fillers and artificial colours, fragrances and preservatives.
An example is an apple. All natural? Yes. But… an apple grown with pesticides, fertilizers and stored with heavy preservative methods is going to absorb those chemicals and pass them onto you and your family when you eat it. Further, it is not going to have the same purity and natural life force as an apple grown organically – the way nature intended. Studies are now showing that the nutritional value of organic produce far exceeds non-organic. So the benefits are more than just avoiding the bad stuff… (If you are interested to learn more about the chemicals not allowed in certified organic formulations and why, you can read more here… (link coming soon)
If you are around babies and young children, who are particularly sensitive to toxins, avoiding artificial fragrances often found in non-organic skin care is another benefit of choosing pure organic skin care.
Transparency and Accountability
Unfortunately certification from an authorised Third Party is the only way to tell a commercial product is genuinely and completely natural and organic (not just with a few organic or natural ingredients in amongst a base of synthetic chemicals). Due to lack of adequate governmental standards in skin care labelling there are many products on the marketplace with unsubstantiated claims of being natural’ and ‘organic’.
Synthesis products are fully Certified to the Australian National Standard for Organic and Biodynamic Produce to ensure each ingredient is kept pure all the way from seed to the finished product you hold in your hand.
Certified Organic ingredients and products must be grown, processed and stored without the use synthetic chemicals, pesticides, fertilisers, nano particles or GMO’s.
Obtaining stringent third party industry certification has been one of the foundational bases of our production to assure you that you are purchasing genuine organic products. We don’t think you should have to worry about hidden ‘nasties’ and so are happy to submit to this auditing and allow total transparency about all our ingredients.
A cleaner environment and sustainable future
As well as keeping the ‘bad stuff’ away from our bodies, this is another equally important reason why certified organic is important – the care of our beautiful earth.
Organic Farming, works with nature rather than against it. By encouraging healthy soil and regenerative practices, organic farming encourages healthier plants, people and animals. Organic farmers are not exposed to chemicals while they work, and the environment is not burdened with toxins. “Organic farming and organic processes are about working with natural inputs and as little as possible of anything that will cause adverse environmental impact. A key principle in organic production systems is to direct farming activity at improving the soil humus content so that plants and animals are being provided with an abundance of naturally occurring nutrients rather than water soluble elements.” (Organic Food Chain) Organic farming eliminates synthetic nitrogen fertilisers, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Chemical run-off and residue is reduced in drinking water, waterways and coastal areas.
Approximately 30 000 tonnes of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators are used in Australia alone each year. Run off from these toxins (prohibited in certified organic systems) are the main cause of diminishing marine life, plants and animals.
Animal Welfare
Organic Standards include no cruelty to animals and humane conditions.
Synthesis has gone one step further than to stand against animal cruelty everywhere. We are a preferred brand of the Choose Cruelty Free non-for-profit organisation against animal testing and registered with the Vegan society as using no animal products or by-products.
Better value for money – quality over quantity
Although some organic ingredients cost more to produce, we find that they are much more potent; have a higher quality of smell and botanical benefit. Synthetic methods may be cheap, but there are high social, health and environmental costs such as sickness and cleaning up polluted waterways. (Ref: The Biological Farmers of Australia)
Why choose anything less?
Choosing organic lessens the toxic burden on your body as well as supports a healthier world and future generation.
